| You may have noticed over the past week that there has been construction going on in front of our station. This is the repair for our underground water cistern.
This tank was originally built back when the station was built in 1943, the tank measures 57,000 gallons, this was placed to make sure their was sufficient water to be used in case their was ever a fire in the town of Maryland Line because as you know, their are no fire hydrants. This tank is also the largest underwater cistern tank in all of Baltimore County.
Since this tank was built back in 1943, you can imagine that it has become slightly outdated. We have noticed over the past 10 years it has been having some problems and so we decided to let the tank get its 2nd overhaul in its life. We have been working with members of the Baltimore County Fire Department and the Baltimore County Volunteer Firefighters Association to accomplish this.
The tank, measuring 12 feet by 15 feet by 60 feet, will receive new piping that go from the bottom of the tank out to the hydrant on the street, and repaint the tank house making it look just that much better and appealing.
While all of this is being down we have gotten a temporary tank in the back of our station that we will be using for the same needs as the cistern as it is completed. |
